4 week agoAl-Shabaab militants have reportedly forced Burundian troops and some local fighters to vacate their camps in the strategic river-crossing village of Xawaadley in Middle Shabelle, about 50km north of Mogadishu. The militants have been deliberately flooding the area for 3 days with water from the Bal’ad nature reserve, the largest water reserve in Somalia. A source in the area said residents reported al-Shabaab militants were spotted in Xawaadley on Monday. Xawaadley has a strategic bridge linking the region to the southern half of the country
